Contestants, News, Season 1

Look’s like we are ready to get this started. Our first season is comprised of web veterans and include one programmer, two front-end developers, a designer, and a deseloper. Submitted projects range from content site to Basecamp competitor.

TheWebChallenge (http://www.thewebchallenge.com), Kai Pradel
We’ve all had that idea that will revolutionize the web, change the way people think, and bring us closer to world peace. Or maybe just an idea for a site that sounded kind of cool. TheWebChallenge gives you the perfect excuse to plunk down, use that domain name you’ve had registered since 1992 and see if your idea has legs. Sign up and compete in a 60 day challenge to create the most successful website. Sites are judged in three categories: total unique visitors, total regisered useds, and total profit.

Education Finance Guide (http://www.educationfinanceguide.com), Kai Pradel
The credit crunch has long started to affect areas other than the housing market. College families are scouring for loans as credit and low interest rates have dried up, leaving tens of thousands of families in a struggle to find funding. EducationFinanceGuide.com is a resource to help inform parents and students on ways to fund a college education in tough economic times.

Mockup Preview (http://www.mockupreview.com), Eric Fields
Ask a group of freelance web designers what the hardest part of their job is, and you’ll likely hear rumblings of “presenting to clients,” “getting these idiots to understand my revolutionary artistic vision,” and “sitting through two hour meetings going through every shade of blue from #000001 to #0000ff.”

Enter Mockup Preview, the Wow Sauce for Web Designers (™ pending). Upload screenshots to simple, single-purpose application that allows you to tag specific regions of a mockup with comments, for an in-browser presentation that feels just like the real thing. Features include desaturated viewing to focus client eyeballs on concept over color, grouping multiple screenshots into a single presentation, unique printing options, comments, revision history and more.

dailysup.com - “see what’s up” (http://www.dailysup.com), Matt Smith
It’s a __X__-a-day site. Where X equals: joke, recipe, astrology, deal, movie review, restaurant review, photo, video clip, etc… The niche will be UGC and delivery platform.

JonDesk (http://www.jondesk.com), Jonathan Block
Basecamp charges between $24 and $150 per month to their 1,000,000+ members in order to use their project collaboration website. The fact of the matter is project collaboration is not rocket science. In just 2 or 3 days I was able to code up a reasonable alternative, and its free. Use my JonDesk to collaborate with your team members on your next project for free.
